Steve Hershman is the founder, treasurer and clerk of the Massachusetts Human Resource Fund, Inc. (MHRF) in 1986. He designed the organizational framework to provide 501(c)(3) non-profit benefits for the organization’s constituents for the purpose of facilitating economic and social-service development. Steve was instrumental in obtaining endorsements from Senator Paul Tsongas of Massachusetts and Mayor Kevin White of Boston for the design and procurement of the original Bayside Expo Center concept at Columbia Point which eventually led to the building of the JFK Library and Museum.
In the early 90s he was the lead MHRF consultant to an International Management Group (IMG) project for the development of an Ethnobotany Reserve in the Amazon in Brazil which preserved 400,000 acres of rain forest for study of indigenous medicine. As Assistant Director for the Somerville Chamber of Commerce he helped Chamber members with technical assistance, recruiting new members, and editorial writings on economic issues affecting local and national economy in politics and technology.
Steve consulted to the late United Nations Administrative Director, Dr. Naeem Gul Rathore under Secretary-General U-Thant and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to assist with the global UN activities including consulting with the Presidents of Cape Verde and Bashkortostan-CIS. Also, with Dr. Rathore under MHRF he established an NGO, “We Care International” which with the UN, Rotary International and the Masonic Lodge of Concord initiated a scholarship fund that resulted in approximately 85 women becoming medical doctors in Pakistan, Iraq, and Kashmir.
Steve consulted to Amnesty International in 2012 for school development in Sierra Leone. He also acted as a consultant to Rockland Trust Bank for its non-profit Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund which managed the “New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), for Metro-Providence Rhode Island, particularly within Providence’s Hispanic community. He co-founded Greater Boston Capital Partners, LLC, (GBCP), an investment group for alternative energy, affordable housing and innovative cutting-edge agriculture projects. GBCP initiated and brokered a 6-Megawatt solar-energy project in Beckett, Massachusetts. Steve was privately educated by distinguished mentors. He developed considerable knowledge and skill in non-profit organizational development, foundation law and executive service over a 50-year career.
